Considering Barney was one of the principal players in stopping Bush's attempt to reform Freddie Mac And Fannie Mae back in 2003, an action (or more
precisely, inaction) that will probably end up costing taxpayers hundreds of billions of dollars... just exactly who is the fool you're referring to?

It would be better if bob would debate jorel's post about the crazy. If bob wants to deflect the argument, all one has to say is who was the president and
who controlled the House and Senate.
But the central point is that the bill embodying tough regulation of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac -- that the Republicans did not pass in twelve years -- was approved by the House in May of 2007 a few months after I became chairman. The bill was not making enough progress in the Senate, so in January of 2008, when Congress was considering the economic stimulus package, with the approval of Speaker Pelosi I approached Treasury Secretary Paulson and asked him to take the tough new regulations on Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac the House had approved, and make them part of the stimulus package. He said he could not get the Administration to agree to that for a number of reasons. Had he done that, we would have had those new regulations in effect months ago.http://www.barneyfrank.net/node/208 That Barney Frank guy must be really powerful. He single handedly cost taxpayers hundreds of billions of dollars...What were these guys named Bush or Cheney doing? I could have sworn they were in control. |

Back to the original post in this thread, I thoroughly enjoyed the clip. More people need to give those people a reality check. The debate should be based on
reality.

The debate should be based on reality. True, but most debates with our politicians are full of lies. The White House is taking aim at the untruths that are being floated around the internet about health care reform. They've set up an email address for people to report those lies, half-truths and ... |

This one's for Plato, listen to Barney's own words, especially the part about the government not bailing Fannie or Freddie out...
And Plato, the Pubs never had 60 votes in the Senate, the Dems do now and it still looks like the Dem president isn't going to be able to pass much of his agenda. Going by your so-called "logic", the Pubs must have the 40 most powerful votes in the Senate.

Full ListBlameworthy
If this was such a big concern of theirs why didn't they happen to pass this?
3. Democrats controlled the Congressional Debate on GSEs: Rove somehow fails to note the GOP controlled Congress from 1994-2006, including the first 6 years of the Bush Presidency. If the President wanted to rein in the GSEs, he needed only make it a major priority, and not a footnote in the 2001 budget.

Were not talking about the financial crisis, Plato. We're talking about Barney Frank's role in costing the taxpayers hundreds of billions of dollars
by his refusal to accept reality and blocking efforts to reform Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae before it was too late. Are you denying that despite seeing the
video of him saying that nothing was wrong and even if they did fail, the government would not be on the hook for bailing them out?
Remember, you and banga made these new rules about staying on subject. Or do those rules only apply when you like them to?

Yes you are talking about the financial crisis, bob.
You have arbitrarily decided 2007 was too late and said it was one person's fault. Your president, your Senate and your House were in control, even to the point of spying on library books that any citizen can check out! The only reason Fannie and Freedie were not regulated is because of the inertia of the Bush administration and Cheney's bloodthirst and greed. Face it, it just wasn't on Bush's radar. Remember, you and banga made these new rules about staying on subject. Or do those rules only apply when you like them to?Stop whining. Your tangents are always addressed. You just have a problem with responding to the thread w/o whining that someone won't talk about your very important problem. tillman52, that was my list. I know everyone wants to get on jazie's good side, but if you're handing out kudoes, that one is mine. Welcome to the board. |

I think there is a lot of blame to go around. I consider the financial crisis, housing crisis, and deficit the result of not capitalism, not socialism, but
just plain piracy from thieves in Washington and New York. You would think that after the savings and loan crisis two decades ago there would be no more
government guarantees if a company goes bakrupt along with reduced control, regulation, and oversight.

I agree with GPM. As for you, Bob, quit changing the subject. The fools Jorel refers to are the fools who have been provoked into near-riot by over-paid right-wing media blowhards spreading ludicrous disinformation in a campaign that is surely financed, aided and abetted by the insurance industry and any other lobby group who hopes to completely discredit the current ruling party (aka the Dems) and their leader in the White House (aka your president - Barack Obama). There are no death panels, there are no vast leftist conspiracies to move this country into socialized medicine, there are no fascists in the White House. There are, however, plenty of people out there who are willing to manipulate the gullible masses into misdirecting their anger by playing on their fears (racism included). What we are seeing here is cognitive dissonance on a grand scale. The world is changing too fast for some and they're being dragged into the future kicking and screaming. Inciting them to violence (and these kinds of accusations are paving a path to major violence) is essentially a treasonous act. These are the movements that give birth to the likes of Timothy McVeigh and, dare I say, John Wilkes Booth. We are suffering the aftershocks of 8 years of Bush-Cheney Corp. Let's hope the structure of our country holds until things quiet back down. |
