I think he was really messed up and not healthy for some time.

It was only "treatable". And really, I think a colostomy would be a highly personal decision and a quality of life issue, even if she decided against having one, I would not really fault her for that.

She recovered after chemo, then went for a bone marrow transplant to get rid of it "for good". She was up & feeling fairly good after chemo. The transplant led to 5 months of agony capped by death. Medicine is a crapshoot.
