I wonder if the vetters knew this. NEW YORK In a surprise announcement, the McCain campaign revealed today that Sarah and Todd Palin have announced that their 17-year-old unmarried daughter Bristol is pregnant. The couple said in a statement that Bristol will keep the baby. When news broke, it had not yet been reported by her home state papers, which have often been the source for outside media for other background on Palin. The McCain team asserted that he knew about the pregnancy when he selected Palin. She has five children and now a grandchild coming as she hits the campaign trail. She and the campaign also are asking that the media respect the family's privacy on this matter. Their statement continued: "We have been blessed with five wonderful children who we love with all our heart and mean everything to us. Our beautiful daughter Bristol came to us with news that as parents we knew would make her grow up faster than we had ever planned. As Bristol faces the responsibilities of adulthood, she knows she has our unconditional love and support." Editor's note: I intially gave the wrong poster credit for breaking this story. Also, Sarah should never have accepted this VP candidacy knowing this. She was selfish to put her daughter in the national spot light like this.

The reason I believe Palin had the last baby is that he was born with Down's. A 44-y-o having a baby runs an exponentially higher risk of this. A 17-y-o's egglets would be much less likely to be unhealthy. Does this yuku make my butt look big(ger)?

Jindal must be looking a lot better now. Groups that oppose abortion rights had been thrilled with Mr. McCain's selection of Ms. Palin, the governor of Alaska, as his running mate, partly because of her opposition to abortion. It is not clear how social conservatives will respond to the latest news. The campaign intends to cast this as the kind of situation that ordinary American families face. All I've ever seen is that the risk under 30 is 1 in 1500-ish, but increases each year after 30. Once a female hits puberty, and begans to cycle, that's her bod's way of saying it's ready for chillun. Luckily, we know that teens aren't ready for this kind of responsibility, so we strongly discourage it! If you have research that shows otherwise, I'd love to see it. I'm not claiming to be totally informed here, so I could be very wrong. Does this yuku make my butt look big(ger)?

It's bad enough that she plans to be VP with a very young, special needs child who will need her constant attention and care. Now she's going to be a grandma on top of everything. These Palin women need to make a trip or two to the dang birth control clinic. There is no way the McCain bunch knew of this beforehand.

I mean why would ultra non-conservatives like you think it's so silly, ironic, ridiculous (or whatever you're intimating) that so-called ultra conservatives would try to avoid teenage pregnancy.
