My excitement for the evening |
Lead | |

Well I had an exciting evening last night. My 17 year old son was suppose to be leaving today for boot camp for the National Guard. Instead, he ended up
getting an emergency appendectomy last night. Since he has not graduated high school yet and this coming August will begin his senior year - his boot camp
has been put off until next summer. I'm really happy about that, because when he signed up for the military I had been encouraging him to wait until
after he graduated high school. Now, he has to wait. God certainly answers prayers in most unusual ways sometimes. I'm so thankful that his medical
problems occurred now before he left instead of while he was away in the middle of boot camp.

Thankfully, they caught the appendix problem before it ruptured and he was able to get the laproscopic surgery. He just had to stay the night at the hospital
and they let him go home a couple of hours ago. He was texting his friends last night just a few hours after the surgery.

I'm happy for you. Once in boot camp, I wonder if they would have caught it right away or if he would have gotten the best treatment. You must have an
angel on your shoulder.

Great timing! I'm surprised they took him before he graduated, but congrats on the momma mojo thwarting their plans!

Chelle, I'm glad that your son's OK, but did you give your parental consent for him to sign up at age 17? I'm not being critical here, but I find
it a bit unusual for a high school junior to sign up for military service. Did he get some sweet deal to attend a service school to do this?
( And I'm glad you're OK too.) |

Glad everything is going to be OK. When, at what age, do most people get appendicitis (if they are going to get it)?

Yes, Quiche his father and I signed the papers to let him join. His father was going to sign the papers anyway and even though I expressed my concerns about
waitng until after he graduated - I went ahead and signed the papers. I really wanted him to wait until he finished his senior year, but he had his heart set
on signing up now and had already planned on having nearly two years service before he was to start college. He has already been doing his once a month
weekend time since February.
Edited to add - no sweet deal - just the standard the military will pay for a portion of his college. |
